When the going gets tough, here are 3 go-to solutions: give up, work even harder, and eat chocolate.
While I’ll admit my personal favourite is #3, that’s not to say that options 1 and 2 aren’t tempting. When the going gets tough, though, I don’t like to stress out. So I don’t give up, which I know would cause me to freak or fail; however, I don’t work harder either, as I know that will lead to exhaustion and burn-out. Option 3, though – chocolate? Well, chocolate makes me feel like I can conquer the world! Great music helps, too. Might I suggest http://www.stereomood.com for pre-made playlists based on your mood or activity.
I like chocolate because the tiniest bit motivates me to kick-start my morning. These universal small joys make me feel relieved and hopeful. Notable runners-up to chocolate (a personal choice) include dramatically singing along to a favourite song, stepping on that extra-crunchy leaf, and that time you squeeze the extra toothpaste from the tube.
Midterm marathon is madness, but with stress busters to make you smile, you can feel grounded and accomplished. So if hitting the gym or venting to friends isn’t your thing, here are my quick-fix recommendations: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HttF5HVYtlQ, http://www.justlittlethings.net, and http://www.1000awesomethings.com (also in print form as the Book of Awesome, and the Book of Even More Awesome).
